Graduate Employment and Training Opportunities

"..a comprehensive programme for graduates in search of a career.."

Graduates for Growth can help graduates in the following ways:

  • guaranteed interview
  • job opportunities and vacancies listings
  • workshop on the realities and opportunities of working in an SME
  • a training programme for the first six months of employment
  • a mentoring scheme to smooth the transition from higher education to full time employment
  • the opportunity to network with other graduates who are working in SME's

"..97% of all companies are small and medium sized businesses.."

How to register with the scheme

Go to your University Careers' department and ask for a leaflet and a registration form. At this stage they will invite you to see a Careers' adviser who will tell you about our preferred C.V. style and suggest that you take some advice on interview skills, preferably a mock interview.
This assists greatly with our aim to provide prospective employers with well presented and well prepared candidates. The Careers' Service will then send the registration form and C.V. to us at the Chamber of Commerce offices in Edinburgh.

"..small and medium sized businesses are the area of greatest growth and development.."

Training & Mentoring

After successful placement in full time employment with a local SME we like to keep in touch. We do this in two ways:

[1] Mentoring

To get you through that first six months of employment your personal mentor will be available for you to discuss your new job, any concerns you have, career development, in fact anything which you feel will help.

[2] Training & Networking

Through the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise we have developed a personal development programme which aims to reinforce the qualities which many of you have developed already through university, clubs, societies, social life, etc. An example of our latest programme is outlined in the Training section of this site. Each session lasts for about 3 hours once a month in the evening and are attended by 10-12 graduates, usually followed by some informal networking in a local drinking establishment.

"..small and medium sized businesses are the sector with the largest number and the greatest variety of jobs available.."
