Engine Room
|
Two Kelvin P4Rs, seawater cooled with cone clutches and 2:1 ratio boxes driving two three bladed bronze propellors through bronze shafts supported by stuffing boxes and cutlass bearings. Driven off the engines on the starboard side a Jabsco deck wash pump plumbed to the starboard cockpit drain and connected to a dog clutch driven by a link belt. On the port side a hydraulic pump for the anchor winch driven as the Jabsco. Each engine is flanked outboard by a fifty gallon diesel tank with a fuel system switchable to each/both/either engines as required, though for safety each tank normally runs its own engine. The fuel system has a seperator and filter for each engine/tank. The diesel lines are of industrial grade clear plastic with snap connectors for ease of blockage/air lock identification and clearance. The electrical system is 12 volt with 2x12 volt capacity nickel cadmium batteries, and charges by two heavy duty engine run dynamos controlled by two Lucas cutouts. All electrical wiring is now run under the deckhead. There is an engine room light aft. An electrical bilge pump is controlled by a float switch and a manual Whale bilge pump is flush mounted on the deck alongside the wheelhouse. Both cockpit drain seacocks are situated at the aft end of the engine room, where the sight gauge for the water tank is found. The fuel tanks also have sight gauges. |
